Skills are evolved by spending XP while sleeping, and may be leveled far more rapidly by feeding on citizens as they're worth a fat chunk of XP. Jonathan can mesmerise NPCs to lead them to a quiet spot, to feed (and kill) them, but only if his mesmerise level is sufficient (raised through main quests). XP is also gained from completing chapters of the main quest, local investigations, killing enemies (minor), killing bosses, learning hints about citizens and curing citizens of illness.

Note that Jonathan's level, compared to the enemy's level, determines a hidden damage modifier: If you are higher level, you'll do far more damage and receive less. If you're lower level, you'll do far less damage and receive more. Thus the decision to kill or not to kill works as a major combat difficulty modifier, on top of the difficulty chosen in the menu.

Active Skills[]

Reid has access to five skills at any given time to use in combat. Equipped skills can be swapped out through the character menu, even during combat. There are three schools of damage that Reid can deal with his active skills. Melee shares its school with Weapons, but Blood and Shadow damage are unique to vampire skills.

  • Autophagy - Reid's primary method of healing himself, exchanging Blood for Health. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to provide Health regeneration alongside the instant heal.

Defensive[]

  • Coagulation - Freezes an opponent in place for several moments, leaving them vulnerable. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either incapitate the target for longer, or to also provide Blood upon use.
  • Blood Barrier - Exchange Blood for a temporary shield against attacks. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either absorb more hits before breaking, or to deal Blood damage to nearby opponents upon expiration.

Aggressive[]

  • Claws - Quickly swipe forwards, dealing Melee damage. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either generate Blood upon hitting an opponent, or to Stun them instead.
  • Bloodspear - Fire a blast of Blood damage toward an opponent and anything else along the way. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either deal more focused damage, or to split into smaller, spread spears.
  • Shadow Mist - Lay down a supernatural mine to erupt with Shadow damage after a delay. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either cover more range upon detonation, or to absorb Blood.

Tactical[]

  • Spring - Instantly charge toward an opponent, closing the distance and dealing Shadow damage. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either deal more damage, or to Stun the target.
  • Shadow Veil - Enter an invisible state that lasts as long as the vampire has Stamina to burn. At later levels, this skill can be upgraded to either provide a damage and stun bonus upon leaving stealth, or to allow Dodging whilst maintaining the veil.

Ultimate[]

Just same as name, these were the "Ultimate" skills. No cost to blood, the only limit is cooling time was 99 seconds.
These skills may your main method to deal with the Boss later, which means, if you can keep alive during fight (such as keep running), you will always have chance to using this to your target. Remember, time is on your side.

  • Rage - Unleash the beast. Teleport to all nearby opponents and strike each several times for high Melee damage.
  • Abyss - Summon the shadows. Incapacitate an opponent and deal high Shadow damage to them.
  • Blood Cauldron - Boil the blood. Force an opponent to explode, dealing high Blood damage to both them and all nearby opponents.

Passive Skills[]

Passive skills govern the Health, Stamina and Blood resources, the power of Reid's Bite, and how many items he can have equipped at any given time.

Body[]

  • Body Condition - Invest in this passive to improve Reid's Health bar, allowing him to take more hits before being defeated.
  • Physical Prowess - Invest in this passive to improve Reid's Stamina bar, allowing him to act for longer before needing to catch his breath.

Blood[]

  • Blood Capacity - Invest in this passive to improve Reid's Blood bar, allowing him to spend more Blood points on skills before needing to replenish himself.
  • Big Thirst - Invest in this passive to increase the Blood absorption of Bite.

Bite[]

  • Hard Biting - Invest in this passive to increase the damage inflicted when using Bite in combat.
  • Fast Regeneration - Invest in this passive to increase the Health regeneration of Bite.

Science[]

  • Medical Bag - Invest in this passive to increase the amount of Serums Reid can carry can carry at any given time.
  • Cartridge Bag - Invest in this passive to increase the amount of Ammunition Reid can carry at any given time.
