'Mary is one of the characters in Vampyr. She is the sister of Jonathan E. Reid and daughter of Emelyne Reid and Aubrey Reid. Mary had a son, but he was infected by the Spanish flu and died, and her husband died in France during the First World War.
- Players meet Mary early in the game. She is the first victim of Jonathan after she finally found him at the Docks. Not recognizing her after his awakening as a Vampire, he bites her to satisfy his sudden blood lust.
- Jonathan will find out she was also looking for him at the morgue. Rakesh Chadana had seen her there.
- Some players wondered how it is possible that Mary became a Vampire when victims would need to drink the blood of the Vampire that bit them. Jonathan bites her and then she sinks down to the ground and dies. But after that Jonathan pulls her close to his chest when he realised what he did and there is still some blood from his bite running down his neck. It is highly probable that she received his blood this way. Watch a gameplay video concerning that: Begin of Vampyr, video by Joshiball.
Biography[]
Her husband left for the war and her son died during the first wave of the Spanish flu in 1917. After her brother Jonathan returns from his military service in France, she starts looking for him all over London, eventually asking the Pembroke Hospital news of her brother (as you can tell from a dialogue with Rakesh Chadana), and finds him at the Docks as a newborn vampire. Jonathan, feeling the thirst for blood, bites Mary in the neck and lets her die until her heartbeat stops. Then, realizing that he has killed his sister, he tries to save her with bandages but Mary dies and Jonathan gives her one last kiss with the blood still dripping from his lip.
Later, the vicar Joseph Larrabee will hold Mary's funeral at Stonebridge Cemetery, attended by her mother Emelyne accompanied by Avery Cork and Jonathan (secretly). After this, Jonathan goes to pray for his sister and she, becoming a vampire, frees herself from the grave by digging with her fingers and teeth and begins to observe her brother's actions. If Jonathan has behaved well he will persuade Mary to spare her mother Emelyne, otherwise she will kill her by biting her neck (Avery Cork changes his dialog when you talk to him in your house in the West End).
Mary Reid will finally die impaled with a cross by Jonathan, and he promises her that he will find a cure for the vampirism epidemic. Mary then replies that if he can find a cure, she will be able to forgive him. After that Jonathan buries his sister in her former grave - this event marks the middle of the game.
