Skill description[]
“ | We think of vampires as immortal, but if you can block their unnatural regenerative capabilities, they are more vulnerable than you think. | „ |
The Vampire uses the power of his blood to heal normal, and aggravated damage, increasing his flesh, nerve, and bone regeneration. With time, this vampiric ability can be extremely powerful, and is sure to surprise any unwary Vampire Hunter.

Strategy[]
Skill Synergies:
- Body Condition (More health means more to heal.)
- Blood Capacity (Makes blood management easier.)
- Big Thirst (Gain more blood when biting.)
- Coagulation (Freeze an enemy, buying a window to heal, and may gain blood if upgraded.)
- Blood Barrier (A shield works in hand with heal to keep Jonathan alive.)
Weapon Synergies:
- Knives/Daggers (Drain Blood quickly.)
- Stakes (Stun quickly for a window to heal.)
Autophagy is Jonathan's heal skill. The animation leaves him vulnerable for a brief moment, making good timing essential. Remember that if an opponent attacks him whilst using Autophagy, the blood Jonathan just spent to heal has gone to waste, and he runs the risk of being in a worse position than in the first place. As a result, creating distance between Jonathan and his enemies is important. Cover is ideal, such as behind a wagon or a corner, so that ranged enemies cannot take advantage of his retreat.
Note that Autophagy level 2 is the most efficient (semi-)instant healing when considering healing per blood cost, even compared to higher levels of the (semi-)instant healing path, but is also too slow if getting hit frequently. So, the best way to deal with damage is to not get hit in the first place, which also makes Blood Barrier a better defensive option in most cases.
Enemies can be stunned with off-hand weapons, or main weapons with stun bonuses, buying brief opportunities for Jonathan to heal himself safely and follow up with a bite after.
Blood Capacity and Big Thirst are both useful investments to allow more uses of Autophagy. However, keep in mind these cost XP while a blood-drawing weapon does not, and that even the starter weapon Hacksaw allows you to rapidly regain blood while dealing major damage.
